Practicum

Take a beekeeping class, while you begin keeping bees! If you are interested in becoming a beekeeper, whether it’s two hives in your own backyard, or 50 – 300 hives as a semi-commercial beekeeper, this class is for you.

This course will run one full day per month, from January – September, and will combine approximately 27 hrs of classroom learning with an equal amount of hands on experience. We will include all topics covered in “Basic Beekeeping” as well as several more advanced topics, including integrated pest management strategies, and the production of queen bees and nucleus colonies.

All topics will be presented as they are required for hive management through the year, and management strategies will be demonstrated and practised in a semi-commercial apiary setting.  The course fee includes all the equipment you will need for your first year keeping 2 hives, including suit and tools, hive equipment, honey extraction equipment, and of course bees!
