School Field Trips

Our School Field Trip Program

Honeybee Centre has offered fun, exciting and interactive field trips for over 15 years! We are a staple for many schools and day cares and continue to grow and expand to offer new and fresh programming for all ages!

Honeybee Centre has completely renovated our field trip facility and educational program. Our new program includes lesson plans that align with the teaching curriculum, interactive activities to accompany each lesson, and a brand new take-home wildflower seedling craft included with each field trip!

We are now accepting field trip bookings for the 2017 season. Morning and afternoon bookings available Monday to Friday.

If you want to see the new space first hand you can attend our teachers open house on February 27th, learn more and register HERE

The Field Trip

Objectives:

  • To bring the amazing world of the honeybees to the forefront of education through hands on activities and explorations.
  • To showcase the relationship between humans and honeybees.
  • To feature the honeybee as an integral species in our food web.
  • To explore the honeybee and other pollinators as a keystone species in Earth's ecosystem.
Our school field trips invite students to explore math, science and English through a unique perspective: The bee hive! Honeybees provide students with a fascinating canvas to which they can apply their classroom skills to.

Children Will:

Taste different types of honey

Touch displays and learn about bees in a tactile manner

See the lesson come alive in the form of real beekeeping props, interactive displays and colourful posters

Listen to lessons not only from our guide but also to the reactions and observations from their peers while interacting with different educational activities!

Smell other bee products like bee pollen, beeswax and propolis

Each field trip includes a take-home bee friendly wildflower seedling craft that they can plant in their back yard, a snack break, a pre and post package for educators to reinforce lessons at Honeybee Centre and an incredible on-site interactive experience.
