Basic Beekeeping
Honeybee Centre offers a comprehensive basic beekeeping course that combines 18 hours of classroom instruction with 3 field sessions to give the first time beekeeper the skills to manage up to 10 colonies. Novice beekeepers, and those wanting to learn the most recent beekeeping techniques, will greatly benefit from this course.

Advanced Beekeeping

This is an essential seminar for the serious beekeeper. You will find out what is happening in the real world of beekeeping, how to avoid big winter losses, tricks and tips, and how to fine tune your beekeeping operation to maximize production.

Among the topics covered in this intensive seminar are:

Colony Collapse Disorder

"How-to" steps to increase colony numbers

"How-to" steps for maximizing honey flow

Splits, nucs, and two-queen colonies

How to re-queen easily

How to anticipate winter losses & what to do about it

Varroa and tracheal mite strategies

How to eliminate chalkbrood completely

All about making creamed honey

Practicum in Commercial Beekeeping

So…you have a colony, or two, or ten, but you still want more? Are you wondering how to make your hives pay for themselves, and maybe make a little money on the side? Acommercial beekeeper in western Canada can have as few as 50 colonies or as many as 300, while still keeping a full time job!

This course will be made up of classroom time, homework, and field experience with our commercial beekeepers! At the end of the course you will have all the knowledge required to begin keeping bees at a commercial scale, including a budget, and a plan for growth to 250 colonies. This course takes place over four weekends with Saturdays spent in class, and in our teaching apiary, and Sundays spent working in one of our out yards.
