Medicinal Honey
All honeys have some level of the antibacterial compound hydrogen peroxide, which is produced by enzymes in the honey. Some honeys have a separate and much more persistent antibacterial action such as Manuka honey. Manuka honey is from the tea tree in New Zealand and has been extensively studied by Dr. Peter Molan and shown to have very strong antibacterial properties. It has been shown to kill the bacteria responsible for stomach ulcers and other gastrointestinal ailments.
Manuka honey is also extremely effective in preventing or curing fungal and bacterial infections when applied topically to the infection.
