- Field Trips/Visits
Every year, Honeybee Centre rents out bees to local farmers to pollinate eleven different fruit crops; apples, blueberries, currants, strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, cranberries, kiwi, pumpkin, zucchini, and squash. Blueberry growers are the largest group of grower customers, followed by cranberries, then raspberries. Bees are rented for the entire bloom cycle, which is usually about four weeks long.
The price to rent one colony varies from $50 to $135, depending on the type of flower being pollinated. Depending on the variety of flower, growers require from one to six colonies per acre. By using bees to pollinate their fields, growers can expect up to 50% more fruit. Our minimum installation is 24 colonies per field.
