We'll also be hosting a free seminar for mason beekeeping, and a fascinating seminar on honeybees, but without the technical beekeeping details!

Basic Beekeeping Course

How to keep bees and make honey!

This course will give you the knowledge to begin keeping bees. It is suitable for anyone interested beginning beekeeping, whether it's 2 hives in your own back yard, or a 50 hive semi commercial beekeeping operation. The three day course is classroom based, and covers all the biology and management activities you can expect to encounter in a basic beekeeping operation.

Graduates of the course can attend the Winter Management & Field Day course for free. This one day course in the summer will give a hands on review of what was learned in the classroom, and refresh students on the steps to take in the Fall for a successful Winter!

Time:  Friday -Sun,  9:00 am - 4:00 pm  (See sessions for starting dates)

How to keep bees and make honey - in the City!

How to keep bees and make honey – in the city!

This course is an intensive introduction to urban beekeeping. The two day classroom course includes the pros and cons of keeping bees in an urban (vs. rural) environment, legal issues, the biology of honeybees, seasonal management activities to maximise honey production, swarm prevention, harvesting and processing the crop, major honeybee diseases, and management for fall and winter.

Graduates of this course can attend our three annual seminars “Revive the Hive,” “Bee Disease free,” and “No Freeze Bees” free of charge.

Price includes textbook and handouts.

Basic Beekeeping Course - Fall Edition

How to keep bees and make honey!

This course will give you the knowledge to begin keeping bees. It is suitable for anyone interested beginning beekeeping, whether it's 2 hives in your own back yard, or a 50 hive semi commercial beekeeping operation. The three day course is classroom based, and covers all the biology and management activities you can expect to encounter in a basic beekeeping operation.

This fall session of basic beekeeping will ready beekeepers for the spring season.  There will be a focus on preparing and buying equipment and livestock in the spring.

Graduates of the course can attend the Winter Management & Field Day course for free. This one day course in the summer will give a hands on review of what was learned in the classroom, and refresh students on the steps to take in the Fall for a successful Winter!

Time:  Sat - Sun,  9:00 am - 3:00 pm  (See sessions for starting dates)

Cost:  $199 per person  ($149 for second family member)

Revive the Hive (2 hr)

During this two-hour session, participants will learn how to assess an overwintered colony, what to do with dead-outs, and how to care for the survivors. This spring check-up includes cleaning, feeding, medicating, swarm prevention, and preparing for the summer honey flow.

Time:  12:00 pm -  2:00 pm  (See sessions for starting dates)

Cost:  $19 per person  ($12 for second family member)

Bee Disease Free (2 hr)

During this two hour session, participants will learn how to assess their hives for disease and for pests. This summer lesson includes hive maintenance during the honey flow, removing honey from the hive, honey extracting and storage, checking for disease and for pests, when to treat, and how to prepare the colonies for the fall wind down.

Time: 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm  (See sessions for starting dates)

No Freeze Bees (2 hr)

During this two-hour session, participants will learn how to prepare the colony for winter survival. This fall lesson includes what to do immediately after the last honey pull, disease and pest treatments, supplemental feeding, winter wraps, and winter maintenance tasks.

Beeswax Lip Balm and Salve Making

Making lip balm and salve using beeswax couldn't be easier! Learn from an expert on how to mix up a batch of your own and take home samples of both products made in class!

By making your own cosmetics, you can control the ingredients, the quality and the cost. Whip up a batch for friends, make some for your wedding or baby shower, or become the next Burt's Bees!
