How to keep bees and make honey – in the city!
This course is an intensive introduction to urban beekeeping. The two day classroom course includes the pros and cons of keeping bees in an urban (vs. rural) environment, legal issues, the biology of honeybees, seasonal management activities to maximise honey production, swarm prevention, harvesting and processing the crop, major honeybee diseases, and management for fall and winter.
Graduates of this course can attend our three annual seminars “Revive the Hive,” “Bee Disease free,” and “No Freeze Bees” free of charge.
Price includes textbook "Beekeeping in Western Canada" and handouts.
Notes: There is limited parking available near SFU Harbour Centre, and prepare to pay downtown parking prices
Coffee and snacks will be provided, and there will be a lunch time to either eat what you brought or go elsewhere to eat
